My Feel-Good List
Some of my favourite blog posts to read here on the interweb (no, blogs are not dead!) are the more personal ones that remind me that these people are human and have daily struggles too. I love reading about how others help themselves get out ruts, especially creative ones, as they normalize these ebbs and flows and give me some ideas to add to my own tool box. Having not had a full-time 9-5 job for over a year now and certainly not pursuing that right now (hello, 33 week pregnancy), I’ve found myself feeling a little (ok maybe a lot at times) lost with my day to days. Being my own boss, I have learned, has not come easily to me. I sometimes wish I had someone to tell me what to do each day and then reward me for it when it’s complete. But such is not the case and I find myself getting “stuck”. I often tend to overwork whatever it is I am working on, rather than stepping away and getting some clarity. And so, I’ve created my “feel-good list”, a list I keep in my Notes app with activities to help me step away, clear my (negative) thoughts and help me come back to the problem in a better head space later. Since I enjoy reading others’ similar lists, I thought I would share mine here :)
My Feel-Good List:
• Walking to a local coffee shop for a sit-down drink and maybe even a treat (Batard, Le Marché and Mighty Oak are my favs)
• Picking up fresh flowers and putting them in a favourite vase
• Reading a couple chapters from a book (fiction or non-fiction)
• Listening to a favourite podcast episode (I like to “save” ones to come back to)
• Taking 10 minutes to play with Penny whether inside or outside
• Taking a shower (so simple but feels like a “restart” to the day)
• Doing my hair and makeup (even just a little bit helps)
• Meeting up with a friend for a walk or coffee (nothing like hearing someone else’s perspective to change your own)
• Picking up some tasty finds from the local farmer’s market (I always find inspiration here)
• Popping into my favourite local shops and thrift stores
• Writing a blog post! (hence why I’m doing this right now lol)
• Reading a favourite blog post (I enjoy Ashley Kane’s more personal posts)
• Making a cup of tea at home
• Baking something (though my oven is off-limits now in this heat)
• Rearranging a couple decor items at home (can often cure the desire to buy something too #shopyourhome)
• Going to an exercise class
